What was the original ask?

Santander are a global corporate and investment bank with headquarters in the UK, Spain and the US, serving millions of customers worldwide. Having started a number of Data Engineering and Analytics initiatives in early 2021, G&F were engaged by a core Santander consulting partner to assist with scaling up Snowflake and Data Lake capabilities on a number of projects. As the existing Si's and Consultancies on-site with Santander had failed to deliver key Snowflake expertise, G&F were required to immediately reach into our extensive Data ecosystem, and to deliver expert skills and experience to the project

Data Engineering and Snowflake
Santander as a business had traditionally struggled with hiring for specialised data engineering skills over the years, with a big reliance on their SI partners. When these had struggled to hire the required skillsets at pace and volume, G&F were tasked with mobilising a squad of Snowflake experts that would take ownership for key responsibilities across the project. A squad of 6 Data Engineers was mobilised in 2 weeks.
Data Lakes + Spark + Databricks
In addition to Snowflake requirements, there was also a real lack of specific exposure to Databricks, Spark and Data Lakes in the existing org. Most of the exposure that was within the team was only small and as a project user, rather than people driving delivery and implementation initiatives. In addition to mobilising Snowflake experts. we also delivered 2 Data experts that would work at Architect level across the project and assist with delivery initiatives and driving forwards strategy.
